I have serious doubts with movie installments that extend to more than three. It requires awesome creativity to introduce new concepts with reference to the past while maintaining story flow and relevance.
Shrek Forever After delivered, and more.
Shown last night at the Eastwood 3D Cinema, the original casts members returns in Shrek The Final Chapter as Mike Myers reprises his role as titled. The irreplaceable Eddie Murphy is back as the 'ridonkeylous' Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and new villain Walt Dohrn as Rumpelstiltskinas.
I would like to give credit to the witty Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) who gave me most of the major dose of laughter. I can't specify them lest you want spoilers. :)
Generally, the movie's atmosphere was a little dark and Harry Potter-ish with magical contracts and flying brooms. And this is not necessarily bad; in fact I liked it. It was a welcome breather from the usual generic-fantasy-land from its first installment years ago to the latest one in the year 2007.
I highly recommend Shrek, The Final Chapter (Shrek 4) for the whole family. It officially opens in Philippine theaters today and May 21 in the USA.
